About
Maria Gypsy
I was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and I’m the youngest of four children. Music was always a part of my life growing up. My mom and her sisters were a big influence on me—they would sing live gospel music on the radio on Sunday mornings. Those moments left a lasting impression on me.
My aunts also took me to bluegrass and clogging events, where I fell in love with the energy and tradition of the music. I grew up listening to artists like the Osborne Brothers and Ralph Stanley, as well as old-school country legends like George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Loretta Lynn. I’m also a big fan of Eric Church.
When it comes to my own music, I sing about what I know and what I feel. I’m a hopeless romantic who will always have faith in love and happiness, no matter what life brings.
The name “Gypsy” comes from my great-grandmother, Gipsie. I never had the chance to meet her, but she was a strong and generous woman who took in my father and his brother during difficult times. She also loved gardening, something we share in spirit. I’m proud to carry her name, and I feel her presence with me always.
Outside of music, I love animals, gardening, and traveling.
